6-draw compact brass telescope by Dollond – circa 1800

The Dollond family name has been synonymous with innovative, high quality telescopes from the end of the lat 1700’s to the early 1800’s.  This unusually compact 6-draw instrument with its powerful 2” lens is all brass with a black ebonized body.  It measures 26 5/8" fully open and a very compact 6 1/2” closed.  It is signed in script on the eyepiece draw, "Dollond, London."  The eyepiece has a sliding dust shield.  The 2” front element has an original brass lens cap.  The telescope has the exceptional optical system you would expect from a Dollond instrument.  It is in overall excellent condition and dates to circa 1800.
