Naturalist pocket field microscope circa 1850 A very compact field microscope, standing about 5" tall when assembled. The microscope has three stackable lenses producing a wide variety of focal lengths depending upon how the lenses are combined. A specimen stage with ivory disc insert is reversible for a dark of light background. The stage slides up and down the pillar to focus the image. The lenses are in very good condition, producing a sharp image of fine contrast commiserate with the vintage of the instrument. The microscope and accessories are housed in a fitted mahogany box with plush lined top. The box is in very fine usable condition, noting one broken clasp. Overall, this is a very fine, usable microscope that is a fitting example of the popular field type used by naturalists and students throughout the 19th century. Item 1240 ....................$475 |
